Gonzalez pitched a gem and Tyler
Boss was perfect at the plate as the Oral Roberts University
baseball team blanked Lamar, 8-0, on Friday night at Vincent-Beck
Field.
Gonzalez earned his seventh win of the season as he went eight
innings, struck out seven batters and allowed just four hits. His
seven strikeouts gives him a Southland Conference best 101 for the
season.
The Golden Eagles improve to 16-25 overall and 11-8 in Southland
Conference action, while Lamar falls to 33-13 overall and 12-7 in
the SLC, snapping its seven game conference winning streak.
Tyler
Boss led the Golden Eagles with four hits in four at bats,
including a two-run home run in top of the fifth.
Logan
Domenico finished with three of hits and three runs batted in,
while Nate
Goro, Brandon
Healy and Austen
Colt each finished with two hits.
The Golden Eagles outhit the Cardinals, the top hitting team in
the Southland, 13 to four.
One of the more efficient pitchers in the conference, Lamar
starting pitcher Jonathan Dziedzic issued four walks in the first
two innings of the game. Dziedzic finished the contest with five
walks. A total of six Cardinal pitchers walked eight Golden Eagles
and hit one.
Beginning the top of the seventh, the Cardinals made a pitching
move and the Golden Eagles welcomed the bullpen with four runs on
five hits in the half inning.
Dziedzic took the loss for the Cardinals after going seven
innings with three runs, but did strike out nine ORU batters.
Game two of the series is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday at
Vincent-Beck Stadium.
