HATTIESBURG, Miss. - For the
second consecutive game turnovers were too much for the Oral
Roberts University women's basketball team to overcome as a second
half rally fell short 47-38 to North Carolina A&T Friday night
at the Southern Mississippi Thanksgiving Classic.
The Golden Eagles attempted to make a second half comeback
after trailing 28-19 at the half. Both teams locked down on defense
as offensive numbers continued to yield.
Senior Vicky
McIntyre was able to get
hot in the second half as she posted her fourth double-double of
the season with eight of her 10 points coming in the second half.
She was 5-of-7 from the field and added a season-high 19
rebounds.
The Aggies led by as many as 20 points but ORU cut the
lead to just seven points midway through the second period on a
pair of three-pointers from Jayden
Oliver. Oliver finished with a season-high eight
points.
However back-to-back turnovers led to a pair of brake-away
layups for the Aggies to push the lead back to nine points. The
struggle continued for both teams offensively down the stretch as
North Carolina A&T scored the only field goal in the final
three minutes of the game.
The Turning Point
Vicky
McIntyre hit a turnaround
jumper from the elbow to pull ORU within seven points at 38-45 with
3:01 left to in the game. However, the Aggies forced a season-high
33 turnovers for ORU including two crucial turnovers in the final
three minutes allowing NC A&T to hold onto a 47-38
win.
