ORU pitching blanks Oklahoma in Norman, 2-0

Box Score

NORMAN, Okla. - For the second time this season, the Oral Roberts University pitching staff delivered a great performance against No. 26 Oklahoma as the Golden Eagles shutout the Sooners, 2-0, Tuesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Ballpark in Norman.

ORU moved to 15-16 on the season and 3-3 against Big 12 members, while the Sooners dropped to 23-11 overall.

Pepe Gomez (4-3) allowed four hits in five shutout innings for the victory. Gomez held OU scoreless in his 14 innings against the Sooners this season, including a complete game shutout in the first meeting. Kyler Stout went two innings in relief, before handing the ball off to Jordan Romano to start the eighth for his seventh save of the year.

Tyler Boss was the lone Golden Eagle with multiple hits as he finished with two, including a double. Logan Domenico picked up a double and Audie Afenir added a single for ORU's fourth hit.

Taking the loss for the Sooners was Robert Tasin (3-3) who went 3.1 innings, allowing both Golden Eagle runs on three hits.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as Afenir led the inning off with a single and scored two batters later on Domenico's RBI double down the left field line, his fourth double of the season.

In the top half of the fourth, Boss made it a two straight innings with a lead off hit, starting the inning with a double off the base of the wall in right. After Anthony Sequeira drew a walk and both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Brandy delivered a shot into center that was caught, but deep enough to score Boss to make it a 2-0 game.

Romano made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth as he walked the first two batters on eight straight balls with no outs. However, the junior settled down and got the next three batters out to close the game.

ORU has a quick turnaround as they host Wichita State on Wednesday. First pitch at J.L. Johnson Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. against the Shockers.
