TULSA, Okla. - It was a Saturday to forget for IPFW as Oral Roberts baseball cruised to a doubleheader sweep of the Mastodons at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The Golden Eagles took the early game, 5-2, on early offense and clutch bullpen work. The late game was all ORU as the pitching staff combined to one-hit the Mastodons in a 15-0 run-rule win.

The Golden Eagles improved to 13-10 overall and 4-2 in Summit League action after the series win.

Matt Whatley got things started in game one with a two-run home run in the first and the Golden Eagles did not look back. It was the sophomore's fourth homer of the season.

Rotola added a sacrifice fly in the second to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Mastodons (10-13, 1-5 SL) got on the board in the third inning with a pair of runs, but the ORU pitching staff held strong for the remainder of the contest en route to the victory.

Nick Wood (2-1) garnered the win on the mound after tossing five complete innings and striking out a career high eight batters. Grant Glaze came in from the bullpen and pitched four innings of one-hit baseball on his way to his first career save. The junior struck out five in relief and walked just one.

It was all Oral Roberts in the nightcap as the Golden Eagles cruised to their second shutout victory of the week.

Eight different players drew 11 total walks, which was a new season high in the category. The offense got to work early, scoring three runs in both the second and third to put the pressure on Fort Wayne as the team batted around each inning.

The lead would expand exponentially in the fourth inning as ORU struck for a season-high nine runs to blow the game open.

As good as the ORU offense was in game two, the pitching staff was even better. In total, the ORU arms allowed only one hit on the day in a combined effort. Freshman Trevor McCutchin went four innings in his first career start, striking out three in the win. The Golden Eagle bullpen held its ground for the remaining three innings, striking out six and allowing only one baserunner.
