OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha used a five-run fifth inning to secure its first ever series win over Oral Roberts, defeating the Golden Eagles 11-5 Saturday afternoon at Ballpark at Boys Town. It marks just the fourth Summit League series loss in program history for ORU.

Omaha (28-26, 18-12) scattered 17 base hits on the day which was third worst on the season against the Golden Eagles. The Mavs went for 16 singles and a home run. Three Mavericks went for three hits while every player in the lineup was able to notch a hit. 

Noah Cummings led the way for Oral Roberts (34-18, 22-8) at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Brent Williams became the team leader in home runs after belting a two-run homer in the sixth inning for his eighth on the year. Junior Michael Hungate went for his second home run of the season when he sent a ball over the left field wall in the second for ORU's first run of the game.  

Omaha racked up runs in six of their eight opportunities at the plate and put a runner on third base in the first seven innings. 

Sophomore Cale Tims (6-2) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs in three innings. The right-hander faced 17 batters with eight runners reaching base. Grant Glaze gave up four runs in an inning and a third. Evan Eubanks tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning against the Mavericks in his fifth appearance of the year.

Omaha's Corey Binger (8-3) picked up the win after tossing six innings and giving up three runs on eight base hits. 

Notables

  • The Golden Eagles move to 10-2 all-time against the Mavericks in the loss. It marks the first series win for the Mavericks over ORU. 
  • The Mavs' 17 hits were the third most hits allowed by the Golden Eagles on the year. 
  • Three Maverick batters went for three hits while every starter for UNO recorded a base hit. 
  • Noah Cummings led the Golden Eagles with three hits.

The Golden Eagles will return to J.L. Johnson Stadium as hosts of the Summit League Championship. ORU has secured the No. 1 seed in the tournament and will play South Dakota State Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
