ORU (6-7) – WSU (6-9)
Location:
Wichita, Kan. (Eck Stadium)

WICHITA, Kan. – The Oral Roberts baseball team built an early lead before Wichita State scored the next eight runs to claim an 8-2 victory Tuesday on a rainy afternoon at Eck Stadium.

The Golden Eagles got the day's scoring started on Blake Hall's RBI groundout in the second inning. Isaac Coffey started the frame hitting a single and RJ Pearson added a one-out single before Anthony Martinez drew a walk loading the bases setting up the run scoring play by Hall.

Trevor McCutchin doubled the ORU advantage in the top of the third as the senior turned on an inside pitch lifting a solo home run to right for a 2-0 margin.

The Shockers tallied the next eight runs of the game posting four in the third and four again in the fifth. Six of the runs came after the Golden Eagles recorded two outs, including all four in the fifth inning aided by a three-run home run.

Turning Point

WSU did not allow the ORU lead to hold for long as the home side scored four times in the bottom of the third. After the lead-off man was plunked, the Shockers tallied a single and RBI double to get on the board. A sacrifice fly evened the score and two runners eventually advanced into scoring position where a two-run single gave WSU the cushion it needed.
