Records: DBU (11-3) – ORU (6-5)
Location: Tulsa, Okla. (J.L. Johnson Stadium)
TULSA, Okla. – A four-run first inning was not enough for the Oral Roberts baseball team as it dropped a 13-6 contest to Dallas Baptist Saturday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The top three players in the Golden Eagles lineup combined for six hits, five runs and three RBI helping jump out to a 4-1 lead. Blake Hall posted a triple in the first at bat of the day and the team went on to register five hits in the frame, including a RBI triple by Spencer Henson and run-scoring singles from Andrew Pace and Hunter Swift.
The visiting Patriots used a five-run seventh to break open a close game and tallied a run in seven different innings to earn the series victory away from home.
Quote of the Day
"We had a good first inning and handled their starter really well bumping him in the fourth. I felt really good about what we did offensively, pretty much all day, hitting a lot of balls hard here again. Those three guys (Blake, Andrew, Spencer) made us go and gave us a chance, but there in the middle we got lost again."– Head Coach Ryan Folmar
Turning Point
DBU broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the fifth scoring twice on ORU starter Matt Gaskins and never relinquished the lead. A lead-off walk came home on back-to-back singles before the Golden Eagles turned to the bullpen. The Patriots pushed their lead to 6-4 on a sacrifice fly and stretched that to a seven-run advantage in the sixth.
Inside the Box Score
- DBU's bullpen stymied ORU until Hall connected on a 2-1 fastball crushing his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left leading off the bottom of the seventh. The Magnolia, Arkansas, native reached base three times going 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.
- After needing a triple Friday night to complete the cycle, Henson decided to hit a pair Saturday. The junior posted his first career triple in the first inning and added another in the seventh becoming the first ORU player with two triples in a game since Tyler Boss had two at Texas March 12, 2013.
- Anthony Martinez tallied a 2-for-4 afternoon at the plate hitting a single and double in consecutive at bats. The junior also made two remarkable plays defensively showcasing his versatility for the Golden Eagles.
- Pace had a RBI single in the first frame and followed by hitting another single in the second finishing 2-for-5.
