Records: ORU (4-3, 0-0 SL) – BU (4-3, 0-0 Big 12)
Location: Waco, Texas (Baylor Ballpark)
WACO, Texas – Behind James Notary's 7.1 innings on the mound, the Oral Roberts baseball team was able to strike down Baylor for a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark to claim the weekend series on the road.
Notary cruised through the first four innings allowing just a single to open the game before he set down the next 10 batters. His pitching effort gave the Golden Eagles offense a chance to break the early deadlock.
Jordan Wiley did just that hitting his third homer of the weekend, a solo blast in the top of the fourth, to put ORU in front 1-0. Tanner Lindsly hit a stand-up double to lead off the fifth and Hunter Swift followed with a RBI double to the right-center gap trading places with Lindsly. Ryan Cash extended the rally in the fifth ripping a RBI single down the line in right plating Swift making it a three-run cushion.
Baylor scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run and the Bears made it a 3-2 game on a two-base wild pitch in the sixth. With the home side threatening, ORU added an insurance tally in the eighth.
Anthony Martinez and Caleb Denny both hit singles in the frame and Blake Hall drove a RBI single to right bringing home Martinez from second handing the Golden Eagles a 4-2 lead.
Kaleb McCullough took the mound in the eighth with the potential tying run at the plate and was able to escape the inning without any damage. The junior issued a one-out walk in the ninth, but forced the Bears into a ground ball out before closing the game on a fly ball to Swift as the Golden Eagles won 4-2 to claim the series.
Turning Point
After Wiley's home run gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the fourth, Swift's RBI double stretched the margin to two and Cash gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage as ORU posted two runs on three hits in the fifth. Notary made the margin stand picking up the series-clinching victory on the road.
Quote of the Day
