Score: Oral Roberts 11 – No. 21 DBU 13
Records:
ORU (5-10, 0-0 SL) – DBU (11-4, 0-0 MVC)
Location:
Dallas, Texas (Horner Ballpark)

DALLAS, Texas – Jordan Wiley tallied a perfect 5-for-5 effort at the plate and the Oral Roberts baseball team built a three-run cushion only to see No. 21 DBU rally for a 13-11 decision Sunday afternoon from Horner Ballpark.

The Golden Eagles scored five times in the top of the third highlighted on a bases-clearing double by Isaac Coffey that put the visitors in front, 6-3. The nationally-ranked Patriots scored the next nine runs to erase the deficit and secure the win.

Adam Oviedo raced to an infield single with two outs in the first and quickly swiped second base allowing him to score on a RBI double off the bat of Wiley staking the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 lead.

The margin was eliminated in the bottom of the second as DBU hit a tying solo home run to open the frame. A RBI double after an error put the Patriots in front, 2-1, and the home side added another tally on a sacrifice fly for a two-run advantage.

The Golden Eagles quickly answered back posting a five-run third inning capped off by a three-run double from Coffey that put ORU ahead, 6-3, utilizing four free passes and just two hits. DBU threatened in the third, but the Golden Eagles stranded runners on the corner.

The Patriots hit back-to-back singles in the fourth and connected for a one-out, three-run home run to even the score, 6-6. Both sides had chances to break the game open, but the pitchers and defense held strong until DBU added another three-run blast in the seventh for a 9-6 lead. The inning continued with a two-out rally as six-straight batters reached moving the margin to 12-6.

Anthony Martinez hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth closing the gap to four and the Golden Eagles got the potential tying run on base in the ninth after Martinez drove in a pair on a bases-loaded single, but the damage had been done in a 13-11 setback.

Turning Point

The Golden Eagles issued back-to-back walks starting the seventh inning and the nationally-ranked Patriots took advantage lining a three-run home run to left on a 0-2 pitch breaking the 6-6 tie.
