WICHITA, KAN. - The Oral Roberts baseball team's comeback bid fell short after Wichita State's fast start, dropping the mid-week contest 13-9.

Martell Davis went 2-for-5, blasting his team-leading eighth home run of the season, now tied with Jack Schark and Cooper Combs at the top of the homer list.

Wichita State got off to a blazing hot start in the second inning as they scored seven times on six hits all highlighted by a three-run homer over the right field fence to set the tone for Tuesday afternoon's game.

A couple of innings later in the fourth, they would tack on two more runs to take a 9- 0 lead over Oral Roberts heading to the fifth.

In the fifth, the Golden Eagle offense came alive, scoring five times.  It started with an Owen Coil two-run double down the left field line, followed up by a fielder's choice off the bat of Combs, driving in another run.  Moments later, Wailele Kane-Yates drove a run in on a single, and Schark tacked on another run with a double of his own.

In the sixth, the ORU offense wasn't done as Davis blasted his eighth homer of the season, a solo shot, to cut the lead to three.  The Shockers responded with one in the bottom half, however, to stretch the lead back to four.

In the seventh, Ethan Fender drove one over the wall in left center for his fifth of the season bringing ORU back within three.  In the next frame, two more came across from Combs' ground out and Kane-Yates' double to cut it to one.

One run would be as close as ORU would get, however, as WSU added three more in the eighth inning on their second homer of the night and the Golden Eagles went in order in the ninth.
