BROOKINGS, SD. - The Oral Roberts baseball team hit nine homers on their way to sweeping the doubleheader against South Dakota State on Thursday, tying them for first in the Summit League.

Wailele Kane-Yates homered four times and drove in eight runs across the two victories, lifting him to the top spot in the home run category on the team with 12.

In game one it was the Jacrabbits opening the scoring on an error committed by the ORU defense taking a 1-0 lead after one.  ORU was quick to respond, however, as Ethan Fender hit his first of two homers and Owen Coil hit his seventh of the year giving ORU a 4-1 lead.

In the third Kane-Yates hit his first of two homer in game one with a solo shot in the third inning.  SDSU was blanked in the bottom half by Easton Teel who picked up his sixth win of the season going 6.0 innings giving up six hits, three runs, two earned, no walks and struck out three.

In the fifth, South Dakota State got back on the board with two runs on an RBI double and single to shrink the deficit to two.  Two innings later in the seventh, however, ORU would hit multiple two-run shots in the same inning again, with Fender's and Kane Yates' second big flies of the game making it 9-3.

In the ninth ORU would tack on two more with a Fender sacrifice fly and a Coil ground out to drive in a run.  The Jackrabbits got one in the bottom half on a RBI single but that would be it as Jared Ure closed the deal securing a game one win 11-4.

In game two Oral Roberts served as the home team with this being the makeup game from early April.  South Dakota State still struck first though with a two-run triple and a RBI groundout in the second making it 3-0 early on starter Nathan Love.   Keaton Campbell would get ORU on the board in the bottom half of the frame with a RBI single, the first of his three hit day.

SDSU got one more run home in the top of the third before the Golden Eagles scored twice in the bottom half to respond again on a Fender RBI single and once again a Campbell RBI single, making it a 4-3 game.

In the bottom of the fourth the ORU bats exploded scoring six times with a Martell Davis solo homer, Kane Yates' third homer of the doubleheader, a Campbell sacrifice fly, and Davis reaching again on a throwing error scoring a run.  The lopsided inning gave ORU a 9-4 advantage.

South Dakota State got two runs back in the top of the fifth against Braydon Sanford, but then ORU would post a crooked number again in the sixth scoring five times.  This time Will Edmunson blasted a three run homer and Kane-Yates' two-run shot was his fourth of the day making it 12-6.

The Jackrabbits wouldn't go away, however, scoring five times across the seventh and eighth innings but Dalton Patten ultimately shut it down picking up his seventh save as ORU grabbed their 19th conference win and 32nd win overall by the final of 14-11.
