TALLHASSEE, FL--No. 24 Florida
State scored five
runs in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of several
bullpen miscues,
and rallied for an 8-3 win over the Golden Eagles Friday at Dick
Howser
Stadium.
After Josh Lex
(Elk Grove, Calif.) tied the
game at 3-3 with a two-run homer in the top of the eighth -- his
second of the
game -- ORU's bullpen handed the lead right back to the Seminoles
(5-3).
Conner Tinkler (Ada, Okla.) started the inning and gave up
three consecutive
singles, the third an RBI base hit by Derrick Smith which gave the
Seminoles a 4-
3 lead.
Justin Ramsey
(Elk Grove, Calif.) relieved Tinkler (0-1) with no outs and two on
and got two
quick outs. But Ramsey then allowed a walk and a balk with the
bases loaded,
and Aaron Cheeseman singled home the final two runs of the
inning.</<br /> P>
Florida State started the scoring,
getting a two-run
homer from Gibbs Chapman in the second off ORU (3-1) starter
Dennis
Bigley (Lancaster, Texas). Lex hit a solo shot with two
outs in the top of the
fourth, trimming FSU's lead to 2-1, but Bigley was victimized by
the long ball
again when Stephen Drew connected for a solo blast of his own in
the sixth,
putting the Seminoles ahead 3-1.
Bigley was solid in his second
start of the season,
scattering nine hits over his seven innings of work and allowing
three runs while
striking out six and walking one. He was backed by a defense which
turned three
double plays on his behalf.
Lex led ORU's 8-hit offensive
effort, going 2-for-3 with
three RBI. he now has four home runs in ORU's first four games,
matching his
total from all of last season. Matt VanDerBosch
(Hastings, Minn.) was
2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases, and Bigley was also
2-for-4.
The Golden Eagles and Seminoles
resume their three-
game series at 1 p.m., Saturday.
