TULSA--Taylor McIntyre (Edmond, Okla.) struck
out 10 batters over 8.0 shutout innings in leading No. 24 Oral
Roberts to a 8-0 victory over Missouri Southern, Saturday at J.L.
Johnson Stadium.
McIntyre (1-0) allowed just three hits and walked three batters
during his eight innings. The junior left-hander benefitted from
three double plays. McIntyre struck out the side in the second
inning.
Missouri Southern's Evan Bates (0-1) held the ORU (2-0) offense
in check until the Golden Eagles broke through for single runs in
three straight innings, beginning in the fourth. Jon
Tackett's (Tulsa, Okla.) RBI single in the fourth put ORU
ahead 1-0. The Golden Eagles added an unearned run in the fifth for
a 2-0 lead, and Tim Torres (Rocklin, Calif.) made
it 3-0 with an RBI single in the sixth.
ORU exploded for five runs in the bottom of the eighth against
Missouri Southern (0-2) reliever Trevor Whipkey. Brian
Hanson (Kelseyville, Calif.), Brian
Aguailar (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Torres each had RBI
singles and Michael Hollimon (Dallas, Texas) added
a run-scoring double. Dennis Bigley (Lancaster,
Texas) drove in the final run on a fielder's choice.
The Golden Eagles collected 10 hits on the day, with Hanson,
Tackett and Torres getting two each. Torres also drove in two.
Brett Newsome had two of Missouri Southern's four hits.
The Golden Eagles and Lions play the final game of their 3-game
series, at 1 p.m. Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
