Hanson (Kelseyville, Calif.) drove in five runs and
Michael Hollimon (Dallas, Texas) homered and
knocked in four as No. 24 Oral Roberts capped a series sweep of
Missouri Southern with a 13-4 win, Sunday at J.L. Johnson
Stadium.
Nick Jones (Broken Arrow, Okla.) picked up the
win for the Golden Eagles, allowing three runs on six hits over 6.0
innings. Jones (1-0) struck out three and walked two.
Missouri Southern (0-3) jumped out
to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Consecutive lead-off singles by
Brett Velliquette and Kyle Knight were followed by a wild pitch, a
ground out and a sacrifice fly as the Lions gained their first and
only lead of the series.
But ORU (3-0) came right back with
three runs in the bottom of the inning. Hanson drove in the first
two runs with a double and Jon Tackett (Tulsa,
Okla.) knocked in Hanson two batters later for a 3-0 ORU lead.
The Golden Eagles scored three more
runs in the bottom of the second. Tim Torres
(Rocklin, Calif.) scored Brian Aguailar (San Luis
Obispo, Calif.) with a sac fly and Hanson doubled in Kevin
Lamb (Owasso, Okla.) and Hollimon as ORU grabbed a 6-0
lead.
After the Lions cut ORU's lead to
6-3 with a single run in the third, Hollimon gave the Golden Eagles
an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run single.
Hollimon's two-run homer in the
fifth inning gave ORU a 10-3 advantage, and the Golden Eagles added
singles runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings for the final
margin.
Hanson went 3-for-5 with a double
and two runs scored. Hollimon was 2-for-2 with three runs, three
steals and two walks. Tackett and Aguailar each had two hits, with
Tackett getting an RBI and Aguailar scoring twice.
Velliquette and Jeff Taylor each
had two hits for Missouri Southern.
The Golden Eagles return to action
when they visit No. 10 Baylor for a three-game series, beginning 6
p.m., Friday in Waco, Texas.
