MOBILE, AL�€"Brian Aguailar's (San Luis
Obispo, Calif.) two-out RBI single in the eighth broke a five-all
tie and gave No. 25 Oral Roberts a 6-5 win over South Alabama in
the opener of a three-game series, Friday at Stanky Field.
Aguailar plated Jon Tackett (Tulsa,
Okla.) from third with the winning run. Tackett led off the inning
with a singles, advanced to second on a sacrifice and moved to
third on a wild pitch before Aguailar drove a single to left off
USA reliever Adam Wood (0-2).
Tim Robertson (Huntington
Beach, Calif.) picked up the win with 2.2 innings of one-hit
relief. Robertson (1-0) relieved Dennis Bigley (Lancaster,
Texas) with one out and one on in the seventh. After retirning his
first batter, Robertson allowed a double into the right field
corner, but the game remained tied as right fielder Kelly Minissale (Murphy,
Texas) nailed a runner at the plate to end the inning.
South Alabama (3-5)
took a 1-0 lead in the first. Tyler Jones led off with a triple and
scored on an error by ORU shortstop Michael Hollimon (Dallas,
Texas).
ORU (5-2) jumped out to
a 5-1 lead with five runs in the top of the fourth as the Golden
eagles sent 10 batters to the plate. Ricky Rivera (Santa Isabel,
P.R.), Aguailar and Kevin Lamb (Owasso, Okla.)
all had RBI singles and Hollimon knocked a two-run double as the
Golden Eagles chased Jaguars starter Jeramy Simmons from the
game.
The Jags tied it with
four runs off Bigley in the bottom of the sixth. South Alabama used
a pair of run-scoring singles, an error and a sacrifice fly to tie
the game.
Bigley, seeking his
33rd career win, allowed five runs on five hits over 6.1
innings, walking two and striking out a season-high eight.
Aguailar led ORU's
11-hit offensive effort, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Brian Hanson (Kelseyville,
Calif.) also had three hits for the Golden Eagles.
ORU and South Alabama
continue their series at 1 p.m., Saturday.
