TULSA, Okla. €" The Oral Roberts University
baseball team completed its three-game sweep of the University of
Texas-Pan American with a 6-0 shutout Sunday afternoon at JL
Johnson stadium. Outfielder Ricky Rivera's (Santa
Isabel, Puerto Rico) bases-loaded double in the eighth broke open a
1-0 contest as the Golden Eagles (12-6) have now won five games in
a row.
Pitchers Rene Recio (Corpus Christi, Texas),
Daniel Greenwalt (LaHabra, Calif.), and
Tim Robertson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) combined
to toss a two-hitter for ORU, never allowing the Broncs (8-19) to
get a runner past first base. After Recio pitched five innings of
one-hit baseball, Grennwalt (2-0) came on in relief to earn his
second win of the year.
Neither team could muster much offense through the first seven
innings, as the game remained a scoreless tie as the Golden Eagles
came to bat in their half of the eighth.
Shortstop Michael Hollimon (Dallas, Texas) led
things off with a single and advanced to second on second baseman
Brian Hanson's (Kelseyville, Calif.) sacrifice
bunt. Third baseman John Tackett (Tulsa, Okla.)
then singled through the right side, scoring Hollimon from
second.
The next two batters walked, setting the stage for Rivera's bases
clearing double and a 4-0 ORU advantage.
Rivera would score two batters later on a sacrifice fly by catcher
Brian Aguailar (Lompoc, Calif.).
Designated hitter Travis DeBondt (Bakersfield,
Calif.) would finish off the scoring with a single to center field
that plated right fielder Kevin Lamb (Owasso,
Okla.), stretching the Golden Eagle lead to 6-0.
Robertson came in and worked a perfect ninth to finish off the
game.
ORU will return to action on Tuesday night, when they host #22
Wichita State in a mid-week affair with first pitch set for 7:00
p.m. The game can be viewed locally on Cox Cable channel 3 or on
the radio on KCFO 970. It can also be heard via the internet at
