OK�€"Corey Brown's two-out, two-strike, two-run double
in the bottom of the ninth gave Oklahoma State a 6-5 win over Oral
Roberts University, Tuesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Leading 5-4, ORU's
Daniel
Greenwalt (
LaHabra, Calif.) walked the first two batters in the bottom of the
ninth. Rusty Ryal grounded into a fielder's choice for the first
out and Greenwalt struck out Keanan Simon for the second out.
Greenwalt (5-2) worked the count to 1-2 on Brown before the
Cowboys' rightfielder lined a double over Travis DeBondt
(Bakersfield, Calif.) in left field, scoring Chris Guitierrez and
Ryal to win the game.
ORU (30-17) led 4-0
after three-and-half innings. DeBondt knocked in a run with a bases
loaded ground out in the second for a 1-0 lead, and Michael Hollimon (Dallas,
Texas) led off the third inning with a solo home run
�€" his team-leading ninth �€" for a 2-0
lead.
Dennis Bigley (Lancaster,
Texas) knocked a two-out RBI double in the fourth and Brian Aguailar
(Lompoc, Calif.) plated Bigley with a single for a 4-0 lead.
But the Cowboys (31-18)
responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, two of which
were unearned. Simon reached on a lead-off error by first baseman
Rene Recio
(Corpus Christi, Texas) and Brown followed with a two-run homer off
ORU starter Tim
Robertson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) to make it a 4-2
game.
After a fly out and
strikeout, Robertson gave up back-to-back doubles to Jeff Parrish
and Ty Wright as OSU closed the gap to 4-3.
The Cowboys tied it at
4-4 in the bottom of the fifth off reliever Dane Towery (Mustang,
Okla.) on an RBI single by Simon.
The Golden Eagles took
the lead in the top of the eighth. Hollimon led off with a single,
moved to second on a grounder by Kelly Minissale (Murphy,
Texas) and scored on Jon Tackett's (Tulsa,
Okla.) double, extending his hitting streak to 10 games and giving
ORU a 5-4 lead.
Blake Kronkosky (2-1)
picked up the win for OSU, tossing a scoreless top of the
ninth.
Hollimon led ORU at the
plate, going 3-for-4. He was the only Golden Eagle with more than
one hit.
The Golden Eagles
return to action when they visit Western Illinois for a four-game
Mid-Continent Conference series, beginning with a 12 noon
doubleheader on Saturday.
