TULSA, Okla. – Alex Schmitz hit a go-ahead, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs to give the Oral Roberts baseball team a 3-2 victory over Purdue Saturday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native broke the 2-2 deadlock plating Spencer Henson from second base as the Golden Eagles closed a series sweep of the Big 10's Boilermakers and extended their regular season home winning streak to 16 games.

The ORU bullpen held off the Purdue attack allowing only one runner to reach scoring position during the final six innings as the teams could not break through offensively over the middle innings.

After Hunter Wilson hit a one-out single in the first, Henson delivered a RBI double to left and Andrew Pace followed by lining a RBI single to center giving ORU an early 2-0 advantage. Purdue responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second to even the score until the late-game heroics from Schmitz.

In the top of the ninth, catcher Brody Gibson aided his young pitcher, Trey Wolf, by throwing out the potential tying run at second base as he attempted to steal his way into scoring position for the second out. Wolf forced a shallow pop fly to Wilson sealing the victory on the next pitch.

Quote of the Day

"There in the middle we just couldn't get the big hit, but Alex came through late with the swing we needed in the eighth. Then Brody made a great throw in the ninth to keep it where it was. So those were two big plays there at the back end of the game that really secured it for us."– Head Coach Ryan Folmar

Turning Point

Henson drew a lead-off walk opening the bottom of the eighth and moved into scoring position on a perfect sacrifice bunt by Riley Keizor. Trevor McCutchin was intentionally walked as Purdue chose to challenge Schmitz. The redshirt junior fought off a 2-1 pitch and sent a single through the right side of the infield as Henson raced home beating the throw on a head first slide.

Inside the Box Score

- Henson became the first Summit League player to reach double-digit RBI thanks to his 10th of the year in the first inning. He also scored two of the Golden Eagles' three runs and drew two walks on the day.

- Schmitz increased his RBI total to five this year going 1-for-3, as ORU tallied five hits from five different players in the lineup.

- Hunter Swift earned the win from the Golden Eagles bullpen throwing 1.1 innings for his first win in the navy and gold. He struck out one and walked two before giving way to Wolf, who closed out his second save in as many chances getting two outs in the ninth.

- ORU's starting pitcher Isaac Coffey pitched to a no-decision allowing two runs on six hits across five innings of work. Adam Scoggins threw two quality innings from the bullpen fanning three and giving up one base runner.
