Â
Â
GREELEY, COLO. Â - The Oral Roberts baseball team scored six times in the eighth inning to rally and take the series opener 9-5 over Northern Colorado.
Â
Right-hander
Easton Teel put together another quality start by going 6.0 innings giving up just three hits, three runs, one walk, and struck out two en route to his third win of the season.
Â
The Golden Eagles, just as they did in Stillwater, started fast opening the scoring in the second inning on an RBI ground out from
Keaton Campbell which scored
Jack Schark who advanced to their earlier in the inning on a throwing error.Â
Â
After going eight up, and eight down, the Bears struck back with a solo homer to tie the game at one in the third. Two innings later, Northern Colorado would use the long ball again hitting a two-run homer taking a 3-1 lead.
Â
As both starters found their groove the two-run lead would be taken to the top of the seventh where ORU would get back on the board with a
Cooper Combs sacrifice fly scoring
Owen Coil to cut the deficit in half.
Â
Then, in the eighth, the Golden Eagles bats really came to life, scoring six times on
Martell Davis's hit by pitch with the bases loaded, a
Will Edmunson sacrifice fly scoring Tyler Borderick, a Combs three-run homer, and a
Makani Tanaka RBI single.
Jared Ure would shut down the eighth inning with a 1-2-3 bottom half and a pair of punch outs out of the bullpen.
Â
In the top of the ninth Coil gave ORU an extra run of insurance with his fourth homer of the season making it a six-run lead. In the bottom half the Bears wouldn't go away quietly scoring two more runs but that would be all they'd get as Oral Roberts took game one 9-5.
