TULSA--Grant
Plumley (Lake Forest, Calif.) had five hits in game one
and Matt VanDerBosch (Hastings, Minn.) had four
hits and a pair of steals in the nightcap as Oral Roberts
University swept a doubleheader from Sacred Heart by scores of 8-4
and 11-1, Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Plumley led ORU's 13-hit offense in
game one, going 5-for-5 with a double three runs and an RBI. He is
the first Golden Eagle with five hits a game since Andy Hargrove
had five against St. Gregory's on Feb. 17, 2003.
Other hitting stars from game one
include junior outfielder Ricky Rivera (Santa
Isabel, P.R.) who was 2-for-4 with three RBI; and Boomer
Welles (Beverly Hills, Calif.) who put together a 2-for-4,
one-RBI effort.
Adam Lesko (Las Vegas, Nev.) picked up the win in
the opener to even his season record at 1-1, allowing one run on
three hits and striking out three in five innings of
work.
In game two, VanDerBosch was
4-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and two steals, giving 14
for the season in nine games. ORU (6-3) managed just nine hits
against three different Pioneer (0-3) pitchers, but benefitted from
10 walks. VanDerBosch was the only Golden Eagle with more than one
hit.
Taylor McIntyre
(Edmond, Okla.) picked up the
win, hurling six shutout innings and allowing just three hits.
McIntyre (2-0) struck out six and walked three.
Junior second baseman Brian
Hanson (Kelseyville, Calif.) drove in three runs and
belted his first home run of the season. Dennis
Bigley (Lancaster, Texas) drove in two runs with a double,
and Josh Lex (Elk Grove, Calif.) also knocked in
two runs despite going 0-for-3.
The Golden Eagles return to action
when they host Creighton in a three-game series, beginning 3 p.m.,
Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
