SAN ANTONIO, Texas€"Oral Roberts University couldn't
hold onto a 4-1 lead in dropping a 6-4 decision to Texas-San
Antonio on Thursday at the Alamo City Irish Classic at Wolff
Stadium.
With ORU (7-6) leading
4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, right fielder Kevin Lamb's (Owasso,
Okla.) error on a fly ball by the leadoff hitter opened the door to
a four-run inning for the Roadrunners.
After Crew was nailed
at the plate on a squeeze attempt for the first out, ORU appeared
to be on its way to getting out of the inning without any damage.
Starter Taylor
McIntyre (Edmond, Okla.) surrendered a single to put
runners on first and second with one out, but struck out the next
batter for the second out. McIntyre (1-4), however, gave up a walk
and a two-run single before being replaced by Matt Hancock (Okmulgee,
Okla.), who immediately surrendered a two-run single as UTSA
grabbed a 5-4 lead.
The Roadrunners (3-13)
added a run on a solo homer from catcher Chris Lewis leading off
the eighthfor a 6-4 lead. The Golden Eagles' Tim Torres (Rocklin,
Calif.) led off the ninth with a walk but was stranded at third as
the next three ORU batters were retired in order to end the
game.
ORU took a 3-0 lead in
the first inning, scoring all three runs with two outs. Michael Hollimon
(Dallas, Texas) led off with a single, was sacrificed to second by
Torres and reached third on a ground out by Brian Hanson (Kelseyville,
Calif.). Dennis
Bigley (Lancaster, Texas) singled in Hollimon in for a 1-0
lead. Jon
Tackett (Tulsa, Okla.), Ricky Rivera (Santa Isabel,
P.R.) and Lamb each followed Bigley with singles as ORU went up
3-0.
UTSA scratched across a
run in the bottom of the first but the Golden Eagles got the run
back in the top of the second when Torres drove in Hollimon with a
sac fly.
ORU out-hit UTSA 9-8
but the Golden Eagles left 10 runners on base, including six in
scoring position.
Hollimon, Bigley and
Tackett each collected two hits for the Golden Eagles. Hollimon
scored two runs and also stole a pair of bases.

loss after allowing five runs (one earned) on six hits in 5.2
innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.

earned the win for the Roadrunenrs, allowing four runs on nine hits
over 7.0 innings.
