ORU Rallies Past UTSA, 9-5

TULSA – Seth Furmanek (Gilbert, Ariz.) went 4-for-4 at the plate and senior right-hander Mark Serrano tossed three scoreless innings of relief as the Oral Roberts University baseball team rallied to defeat UT-San Antonio by a score of 9-5 on Friday at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Roadrunners dropped to 4-2 overall.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Eagles tacked five runs on the board to take the 8-4 lead. Colby Price (Brenham, Texas) reached first base on an error to lead off the bottom of the inning, and Justin Mitchell (Broken Arrow, Okla.) followed with a walk. Danny Duffy (Glendale, Ariz.) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, and Juan Martinez (Bakersfield, Calif.) was hit to plate Price and knot the contest at 4-4.

Furmanek followed with a single over the third baseman's head to drive in two runs, and Michael Notaro's (Westlake Village, Calif.) sacrifice hit plated Martinez. After two walks, Robert Barbosa's (Dallas, Texas) pinch-hit sacrifice fly scored Furmanek.

ORU scored runs in each of the first three innings to take the initial 3-0 lead. Martinez hit a one-out single in the first inning, and Furmanek followed with a double to right field as Martinez advanced to third. Martinez scored the first run of the game after Notaro hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

Chris Elder (Fairfield, Calif.) led off the second inning with a walk and Kyle Price (Talihina, Okla.) belted a triple two batters later to give ORU the 2-0 advantage.

PJ Sequeira (Petaluma, Calif.) drove in his fifth run of the season with a double to left center in the third inning to plate Furmanek.

Serrano (3-0) entered the game in the sixth inning after the Roadrunners scored two runs in the previous frame to take a 4-3 lead. The Bakersfield, Calif., product didn't allow a hit and fanned four batters with no walks in three innings to pick up his third win of the season.

Senior Andre Lamontagne (Santa Maria, Calif.) started the game for the Golden Eagles, surrendering two earned runs in five innings with five strikeouts.

UTSA's Red Patterson (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season, giving up four earned runs in six innings while striking out seven batters.
