ORU Rally Falls Short Against UTSA, 11-8

TULSA – The Oral Roberts University baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth but fell short to UT-San Antonio by a score of 11-8 on Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 5-1 on the season and ends the 25-game home winning streak.

UTSA scored three first inning runs after Michael Rockett tripled and Jose Hernandez homered to left field.

The Golden Eagles closed the lead to one run in the bottom of the inning, as Tyler Garewal (Bakersfield, Calif.) drew a lead-off walk and Seth Furmanek (Gilbert, Ariz.) followed two batters later with his third home run of the season to right center.

The Roadrunners tacked on three more runs over the next two innings to take a 6-2 lead before Michael Notaro (Westlake Village, Calif.) belted his second home run of the season off of the right field foul pole to close the margin to three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

UTSA answered in the top of the fifth off of three hits and one error to bust the game open to a 10-3 advantage.

Juan Martinez (Bakersfield, Calif.) led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to center field, which was his third long ball in the last two contests.

With one out, Kyle Price (Talihina, Okla.) singled through the left side, and two batters later, Notaro singled down the right field line. The two-out rally continued when Price scored on a balk and Johnny Roberts (Pryor, Okla.) drew a walk to load the bases. Notaro ended up scoring on a passed ball to close the lead to 11-7.

Jeremiah Mejia (Riverside, Calif.) followed with a double to left center to plate Roberts to bring the game to 11-8.

Jameson Dunn (0-1) picked up the loss for the Golden Eagles, giving up six earned runs in three innings pitched with three strikeouts.

Clay Schrader (2-0) earned the win by surrendering three runs in five innings with six strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles return to action next weekend at the Rice Tournament in Houston, Texas.
