MIAMI,
Fla.--Florida International pounded out 15 hits in handing Oral
Roberts a 14-1 loss in the season opener for the Golden Eagles,
Friday at FIU Baseball Stadium.
Drew
Bowen (Tulsa, Okla.) suffered the loss for ORU (0-1), allowing
nine runs on 10 hits in five innings of work. Bowen struck out six
batters and walked three.
Scott
Rembisz (2-0) earned the victory for the Golden Panthers (4-0),
tossing six shutout innings, scattering five hits and fanning four
batters.
FIU got on
the board with three runs in the bottom of the second, and broke
the game open with four runs in the third. Single runs in the fifth
and sixth innings gave Florida International a 9-0 lead, and the
Golden Panthers extended their advantage to 14-0 with a five-run
seventh inning.
The Golden
Eagles scored their lone run in the top of the ninth inning when
freshman catcher Bennett
Pickar (Eaton, Colo.) plated P.J. Sequeira (Petaluma,
Calif.) with a double.
Pickar and
Tyler
Saladino (San Diego, Calif.) led ORU's 7-hit attack. Saladino
went 3-for-4 with a double while Pickar was 2-for-4 with an RBI in
his collegiate debut.
The Golden
Eagles resume their three-game series with FIU on Saturday at 6
p.m.
