CEDAR CITY, Utah - Kurt
Giller took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and finished
with a complete game shutout as Oral Roberts defeated Southern Utah
6-0 on Thursday at Thunderbird Park.
Giller (2-4) allowed just three hits on
the day, striking out six, and the Golden Eagles Improve to 16-16
and 3-2 in the Summit League.
Nate
Goro had a breakthrough performance, leading ORU at the plate
with three RBI. Jared
Schlehuber made a big contribution as well, batting 3-5 with
two runs scored.
Southern Utah (9-23, 3-2 Summit League)
dropped their second consecutive conference game after starting
3-0. Starter Chase Rezac (2-4) pitched six innings, allowing six
runs off 10 hits. The T-Birds allowed 14 total hits in the
game.
Bennett
Pickar started the scoring with an RBI-double in the second
inning to give ORU a 1-0 lead.
Giller held Southern Utah hitless
through six innings, enough time for Goro to extend the lead in the
sixth with a two-run single to give ORU a 3-0 lead.
ORU blew the game wide open in the eight
with three insurance runs, starting with a single to right field by
Brandon
Healy, scoring Schlehuber. Then a sacrifice bunt by Goro scored
Brandon
King to make it 5-0, and Logan
Domenico capped the game with a single that scored Healy on an
errant throw.
The series against Southern Utah
continues tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
