TULSA, Okla. - For the first time since 2009, the Oral Roberts University baseball team won its opening series as the Golden Eagles split a Saturday doubleheader against Memphis.

ORU won game one of the doubleheader 6-3, and the Tigers took the second contest 6-1. The Golden Eagles moved their overall record to 2-1, while the Tigers start the season 1-2.

In the first game, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, adding to its lead in the third. After the Tigers cut into ORU's lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning and one in the eighth, the Golden Eagles added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the 6-3 final.

The second game was a much different story as Memphis scored a run in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings en route to its victory.

Turning Point

With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the first in game one, Anthony Sequeira was hit by a pitch to push in the first run of the contest. ORU went on to score four runs in that inning.

Inside the Box Score

• Anthony Sequeira got off to a hot start in 2015, following a two-hit performance on opening day with four hits, two RBI and scoring twice in the doubleheader.
• Noah Cummings recorded the first ORU home run of the season in his collegiate debut with a solo shot in game one. Cummings finished the day with two hits, three RBI and a run scored.
• Matt Whatley reached safely with a pair of hits in game two and Derrian James had a hit in each contest.
• Chase Stafford and Matt Brandy had singles in game one, while Logan Domenico added a single in the night cap.
• Kurt Giller (1-0) earned the victory in his first start of the season, going 6.2 innings with five strikeouts.
• Kyler Stout earned his second save in as many opportunities in game one with three strikeouts in five batters faced.
• Xavier Altamirano (0-1) took the loss in the second contest for ORU as he allowed three runs in 4.1 innings.
• Derrian Tubbs led the Tiger's offense in the doubleheader with four hits, including three of the visitor's 12 hits in the second game.
• Colin Lee (0-1) took the loss for the Tigers in the first game, while Dylan Toscano (1-0) recorded the victory in the second.

Scoring Summary

GAME 1

• ORU jumped out to an early lead as Chase Stafford scored when Anthony Sequeira was hit by a pitch to make it 1-0 in the first inning of game one.
• Noah Cummings then reached on an error by the Tiger shortstop that allowed Matt Brandy to score.
• Another walk drawn by Emmanuel Forcier pushed in the third run of the game as Audie Afenir scored, then Dean Wilson plated Sequeira with a sacrifice fly to center to extend the lead to 4-0 after one inning in the first contest.
• Cummings made it 5-0 in the third inning as he cleared the wall in left field for his first career home run.
• Memphis cut into the lead in the top of the sixth as Tucker Tubbs doubled down the left field line that scored his brother Darien and Kane Barrow to make it a 5-2 contest.
• In the top of the eighth, Tucker Tubbs doubled again to plate Barrow a second time to cut the ORU lead to 5-3.
• Cummings earned his third RBI of the afternoon in the eighth inning, driving in Afenir with a single to extend the Golden Eagle lead to 6-3.

GAME 2

• With a scoreless game in the top of the third, Memphis got on the board with double to right center to drive in Carter White.
• Jake Overbey made it a 2-0 ball game in the Memphis half of the fourth with a single up the middle to plate Brandon Montgomery.
• In the fifth, another Memphis double, this time off the bat of Darien Tubbs, brought home Zach Schritenthal to extend the lead to 3-0.
• The Tigers made it four runs in as many innings in the sixth as Chris Carrier plated Montgomery with a double.
• The Golden Eagles cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth. With the bases loaded, Afenir battled to ball four to push in Matt Whatley.
• Memphis added two runs in the top of the ninth as Barrow singled in Damo Dematteo, and Tucker Tubbs drove in White with a single up the middle for the final 6-1 output.

ORU plays its first mid-week contest Tuesday afternoon as the Golden Eagles host longtime baseball rival Wichita State. First pitch against the Shockers is scheduled for 3 p.m.
